The English Day was held on the 18th October 2019 at Ven. Banagala Upatissa Auditorium of Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya, Sapugaskanda.
Dr. Shashinie M. Thenabadu, The Head of the Department of English Language Teaching at University of Colombo graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The evening was filled with dramas, musical items and many variety of English related activities. In addition, students received certificates for their achievements made at the competitions which was organized in parallel to celebrate English Day
The sacred relics of Sariputta and Moggallana, who were present at the Maligakanda Agrasvara Maha Viharaya, Colombo, were brought to the Sapugaskanda Abeysekararamaya (Yoshida Foundation premises) for the first time on 29th September 2019. Following the religious observances, the public was given the opportunity to pay homage to the relics for a duration of two days.
This meritorious deed was organized by the concept of the Chairman, Most Ven. Banagala Upatissa Nayaka Thero to accrue merit to Madam Thakiko Yoshida together with all the people who supported to strengthen the Foundation. Meantime the contribution of Mr. Sunil Thilakawardana should mention especially towards the success of this religious endeavor.
The Yoshida sports complex was lighten with one million oil lamps to commemorate the 155th Birth Anniversary of Sir Anagarika Dharmapala. This special meritorious deed was named as “Rajabhiseka” Maha Pahan Poojawa which was a major religious event guided by our Chairman, Most Venerable Banagala Upatissa Nayaka Thero.
The Speech Contest of the Primary Section was held on 8th August 2019 in the school premises under the supervision of the Vice Principal, Mrs. Jinani Pothupitiya. A panel of well experienced judges selected the best speakers out from number of representations.
The Annual Inter-House Sports meet was held in our school grounds on 14th February 2019. The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Deshabandu Thennakoon graced the occasion as the Chief Guest whereas The Commandant Defence Service Command and Staff College, Major General D.A.P.N Dematanpitiya graced this occasion as the Guest of Honour. The Gajaba house became the winning house.
The commemoration of the 19th Death Anniversary of Sri Lanka Ranjana Lady Takiko Yoshida was held on 28th February 2019 with the presence of a number of honoured guests.
The ceremony was graced by the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous, Hon. Dr. Rajitha Senarathne as the Chief Guest and the State Minister of Youth Affairs, Project Management and Southern Development, Hon. Piyasena Gamage as the Guest of Honour.
The beloved son of late Madam Yoshida, Dr. Kejni Yoshida and Mrs. Kenji Yoshida together with Mr. Asami Shinichi, Mr. Nishikawa Taketo and Mr. Shozaki Mansaku together with the Inspector General of Police Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon graced the event as Special Guests.
“ÉLOGE JUBILIANTÉ” Inter School Band Competition was held on the 08th March at our school grounds. The competition was held in three categories as Boys, Girls and Mixed bands.
Mr. Jeyam Perumal; the Managing Director of the Mainetti Group graced the occasion the Chief Guest of the Opening Ceremony while Air commodore C. B. Labrooy; the Chief Instructor of the Defense Service Command & Staff College -Sapugaskanda graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the Closing Ceremony.
The school inducted its new batch of Prefects on 11th February 2019. Air Vice Marshall Kishan Yahampath - The Director Ground Operations of Sri Lanka Air Force graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Tanira Edirishinghe was appointed as the School Head boy whereas Chamathika Samadhi was appointed as the School Head Girl.
